Small Dogs in Motion

We have been asked over the years if we make coats for small breeds. Our answer is, "Yes we do!" I believe the confusion lyes in the fact that we don't have many website images of small dogs wearing our coats. So, we contacted our friend and dog lover, Andrea. She generously donated Mr. T's time for a photo shoot with the amazing Sue Bird. Well done Mr. T!

This playful King Charles Spaniel is wearing our All Breed XS-14" Great White North winter coat. The fleece colour is Royal Purple with a Black outer shell. This Royal Purple fleece looks more blue than purple in photos. It is almost an Indigo Blue. Mr T's next image is our All Season Rain Slicker in Burnt Orange with Black lining.

We have sizes ranging from XXS-8" which is designed for 4lbs dogs. And our largest size is XL-36" designed for Great Danes. We will be introducing a few new sizes this Fall. One being our largest size ever, XL-38".

Bismarck, 1998 - 2010

We are very sorry to announce that our handsome Bismarck passed away on Nov. 30, 2010. He would have been celebrating his 13th birthday in February. Our spokesdog, coat tester, model and so much more is terribly missed. We have comfort in knowing he is once again running with Gigi, his house mate.

Iron Hand Bismarck: 1998 to 2010. Memories that will stay with us forever: huge flapping ears, jumping for snow balls, scooping up snow as he ran through the fields, ironman running partner to my husband, taking up a good part of the bed while we snuggled, snorting when he played with Gigi, acting like a goofy puppy every time he saw my parents and my most cherished memory, sucking his stuffy when everyone was home safe and sound.

Bismarck, we love you and miss you terribly.

10 Glorious Years!

Can you believe it has been 10 years since I packed up my drafting table (computer) and started Chilly Dogs. I owe everything to my amazing greyound Gigi and Bismarck who was and still is always up for a fitting and coat testing. And a huge "thank you" to Lynda and Chris of Adopt-A-Greyhound of Central Canada for giving me my first large order.

We have some amazing new colours for this anniversery year. Our Rain Slickers now are available in Autumn Orange in all our sizes. We will be introducing two new brilliant fleece colours this fall: Royal Purple & Autumn Orange. And a very special limited edition colour in our Whippet line: charcole grey/autumn orange nylon. This is a stunning combination and is teamed up with the matching charcole grey Chilly Sweaters.

Many thanks for all your support over these exciting 10 years. I look forward to keeping your fashion forward hounds warm and stylish for many seasons to come.

Maritime Adventure

The Kelly clan vacationed in the Maritimes this August. We had an amazing stay with friends in Malpeque Bay, PEI then travels south to Bridgewater, NS. There we visited our long time friends from Ottawa, Sara & John Harley (Sara is the founder of Barking Biscuits Company). After selling her business, Sara and John moved to Bridgewater to enjoy the east coast and their retirement. Although retired, they both are busy in the community and Sara is pursuing her artistic talents. Just take a look at her beautiful stain glass antique windows! I have a special spot in my office that is in need of a beautiful stain glass window. The kids just loved the Harley's ginny hens.

Woofstock 2009

WOW, what a day at Woofstock this year! Sue Bird of PhotobySueBird and I went to Toronto to hang out for the day at one of the largest outdoor dog events in Canada. Dogs and their owners spent the day socializing, shopping for new doggy items, watching fashion shows and taking a dip in the waterfountain (pups only).

It was a fabulous day all around. Thanks for joining me Sue.

Measuring your Dog

Having problems knowing what measurements to take?

We require 4 basic measurements of your dog to determine the best size of coat or sweater.

A: back length

B: chest girth or circumference

C: chest width

D: neck girth or circumference

Along with the weight and age of your dog, these measurements help us choose the best fitting coat or sweater. We look at all the measurements that you include on your order form before we process and ship your order. If we have any questions about your dogs information or concerns about the size of coat you have ordered, we will contact you by email or phone.

Paws for Charity Donation!

Chilly Dogs would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who purchased a Paws for Charity Chilly Sweater. We were able to donate $503 to the Canadian Cancer Society - Breast Cancer Division from donations collected in 2008!

Our Paws for Charity goals for 2009 include supporting several Spanish Galgo rescue groups. We have listed a few Galgo Groups below, so please take a moment to learn more about these gentle Spanish greyhounds. SOS-Galgo, Scooby Medina.

Mari, our little Galgo has been with us for 1 year and she is a happy, lively little girl who only wants to be loved and cuddled. Chasing a few furry squirrels or rabbits would be a bonus! Thanks Sue from Urban Dog Photog for the great photos!

Chilly Dogs, New Shop!

Welcome to our new space. We've been working hard since Spring 2008 to complete our vision. The vision all started back at Dewey Beach 2007 over coffee, a long car ride and great inspirational company. We now have a bright, white, uncluttered space to work in. We've got a wall of windows, a sliding door for the dogs to come and go and clean storage bliss thanks to Ikea. The dogs could not be happier and either could I.

Dewey 2008 - A Smashing Success!

Mari and I had an amazing time at Dewey 2008. It was Mari's first trip with me since we adopted her and she just loved it. The weather was perfect, the company was perfect, the whole event was fantastic! Once again we shared a beach house with the amazing photographer Sue Bird and the very talented Char Harding of Around the Hounds.

We are very proud of everyone who dropped by our booth and donated their gently used coats, collars, leashes and more, all for the Galgos in need. Kim & Christie of G.R.I.N. - Galgo Rescue International Network kindly collected the items from us and took poor Mari out for her mid-day walk. Although I don't think she did anything except smell. Thanks again girls, it was great seeing you again.

Our bracelet raffle was a success! Greyhound lovers generously donated over $100 towards the raffle for the beautiful spanish bracelet. Congratulations to the winner!

In Support of Galgo Rescue at Dewey Beach 2008

We are proud to support Galgo Rescue in 3 ways this Dewey Beach.

1. Once again Chilly Dogs, Around the Hounds & Photo by Sue Bird are thrilled to be involved in the collection of used greyhound coats and collars for G.R.I.N. - Galgo Rescue International Network. These used greyhound items will be donated to G.R.I.N. which in turn will be passed on to the Galgos in need. Bring your gently used and freshly washed coats, sweaters, collars and leashes to our booth at the Rehoboth Beach Fire Hall on Oct. 10, 11 & 12 and your items will be collected daily by G.R.I.N.

2. A percentage of the proceeds from every purchase of our Paws for Charity Chilly Sweaters will be donated to G.R.I.N. during the Dewey Beach weekend.

3. We will be raffling an amazing Spanish bracelet "Claudia Bracelet" from Baas Galgo, a rescue group located in Spain. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to Baas Galgo. We only have one to raffle so let's make the most of this beautiful bracelet.

Greyhounds Reach the Beach

Dewey Beach 2007 was fantastic! The company was amazing, the weather was fantastic and we collected a huge amount of donated greyhound apparel for G.R.I.N.

Here's what was generously donated: 1 pr boots, 54 coats, 2 muzzles, 9 snoods, 1 spook harness, 99 martingale collars & 79 tag collars. Well done everyone! Collecting used greyhound items for the Galgos in need was an amazing experience and I look forward to doing the same next year. Many thanks to Christie and Kim from G.R.I.N. for picking up the donations each day.

The long trip and long hours was made enjoyable with the company of some great girls. Welcome to our New Blog

I would like to introduce the Chilly Dogs gang; Bismarck, Julie Kelly & Gigi. I started this business in 2000 thanks to the help of my two hounds, Gigi our Greyhound and Bismarck our Weimaraner. You see, Bismarck was a chewer as a pup and loved the texture and taste of Gigi’s coats! One coat lead to two and then three and now a full time business. I was also frustrated with the available coats on the market and their lack of warmth for our cold Canadian winters along with poorly fitting styles. I decided to make coats that would be comparable to what I would wear on the ski hill. And so Chilly Dogs was born!

I from draw from my experiences as an Architectural Technologist, my active outdoor lifestyle and love for hounds to achieve the designs and overall appearance of Chilly Wear™.
